LIGHT BETWEEN, SHADOW DRAWS THE FORM

from CHF 60.00

Without shadow, the mountain would be flat. It is shadow that draws the ridges, reveals the depth, gives the slope its weight. Here, light falls at an angle and the mountain becomes a drawing - line by line, ridge by ridge. What we see is not the mountain. It is light and shadow, working together to make it visible.

Shadow is not the absence of light. It is what gives light its meaning.

Light Between is a series of seven images from the Pizol in the Swiss Alps - made on a single autumn day, when the sun moved low and long across the mountains. In each image, shadow holds the greater part. And yet light finds its way through: along a ridge, across a wall of rock, into a small fold of grass, over the surface of a glacier that has held it for centuries.

These images do not show the Alps at their most dramatic. They show the Alps as they quietly are - deep, layered, patient. And in that patience, a reminder: even where shadow runs deepest, light does not disappear. It simply waits for the right angle.

Nature reminds us.
